A diverse man-made landscape with fields, meadows, fruit trees
and hedges offers opportunities for recreation and relaxation.
However, for recreational activities, certain facilities are required,
such as hiking or bicycle paths, picnic areas, maps, signage, eating
places and accommodations. Optimal planning of this type of infrastructure
allows a large part of the resident population - from direct marketers
to bed-and-breakfasts and bicycle repair shops - to profit from
the visitors' leisure activities. Care must be taken, however,
to avoid any overexploitation of the natural environment and to
also integrate non-tourist users such as hunting, fishing, agriculture
and forestry into the development process from the very start.
We address this challenge by employing integrative and open approaches.
