
Study of the Lafnitztal RAMSAR Region
Abstract: In 2002, the Lafnitz River Valley was designated a RAMSAR region, i.e. a wetland
of international significance. Prior to this study, a full-scale comprehensive
evaluation of ecological conditions along the Lafnitz River had never been performed.

Agriculture and Nature Conservation in the
Burgenland Abstract: In
recent years, the former “antagonism” between agriculture and nature
conservation has given way to an increasingly more co-operative
attitude. The co-operation projects undertaken by the two partners
to date were presented in a travelling exhibition and an accompanying
brochure.

Meadow Conservation in Willersdorfer
Schlucht – Aschauer Au
Abstract: Owing
to the declining demand for hay, the charming countryside of the
valley with its formerly uninterrupted stretches of meadows is
in danger of turning into fallow land or losing its gentle character
due to re-afforestation.
Tasks: Feasibility study employing
the options for the long-term preservation of the still existing
meadows and the reconversion of fallow land and afforested land
into meadows, achieving agreement on the results with land owners,
land users, the hunting community and the administrative authorities.

Ground
Water Protection Programme, Upper Austria
Abstract:
Ground water quality was documented in four regions of Upper Austria
of interest from a ground water management perspective. Possible
causes for increased pollutant levels were investigated and measures
were developed for the rehabilitation of contaminated bodies of
ground water.
